Just looking through this book motivated me to gather my carded wool and start felting! It's so incredibly easy, even young children can do it with very little assistance. This comprehensive guide starts with the basics, such as dyeing wool with soft drink powers, felting ropes, beads and balls. Then it gradually moves into more advanced projects, such as creating dolls, a menagerie of small animals, puppets, mittens, hats, slippers and more. The photographs are informative, colorful and exciting. A must for anyone even mildly interested in this traditional craft!

By Linda Turner Griepentrog and Pauline Wilde Richards
Paperback, 126 pages
This book contains 15 easy, but very creative projects that can be done by hand or with a felting machine. (A felting machine looks similar to a sewing machine, but has 5-8 felting needles instead of a sewing needle.) Some of my favorite projects are needle felted buttons (that incorporate a button form) that can be used as buttons or to create jewelry, an adorable “Sheep Thrills” throw blanket decoration that combines needle felting with a simple sewing machine technique that adds texture and dimension, and a beautiful handbag that begins with tapestry fabric and is highlighted with needle felting to “color inside the lines.” The valuable lessons to be learned from this book are the exciting and different combinations of needle felting and simple sewing to create a distinctive and truly unique look to your projects! Not only needle felters, but also sewers will enjoy this book.
